Rise of the Planet of the Apes is an upcoming 2011 American science fiction film directed by Rupert Wyatt. The movie starring James Franco and Freida Pinto is based on the original Planet of the Apes series. The movie is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2011 and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.
The film is not based on any specific plotline from the original series, but instead takes elements from the earlier movies to create an original origin story.
In a segment of a video blog post, director Rupert Wyatt commented on the originality of the plot: "This is part of the mythology and it should be seen as that. It's not a continuation of the other films; it's an original story. It does satisfy the people who enjoy those films. The point of this film is to achieve that and to bring that fan base into this film exactly like Batman Begins."

The movie features Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain in lead roles and is written and directed by Terrence Malick. The film, The Tree of Life is set to be released on May 27, 2011 and will be distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures. Apollo 18 is a upcoming Hollywood science fiction (Sci-Fi) film directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov.
